Chattanooga Lifestyle Photographer

Most frequently, as a Chattanooga lifestyle photographer, my sessions take place in client’s homes. While studio backdrop sessions are an option, most of my families opt to use their own homes. In this post I’ll discuss the benefits of and considerations for these types of sessions.

In-Home Chattanooga Lifestyle Sessions

The newborn stage is a complete whirlwind. Sometimes staying home can bring needed simplification to the process of getting photos. You don’t have to worry about packing up the outfits, diapers, wipes, pacifiers, etc in order to leave the house. Everything we will need is already present and accessible. Need a diaper change? Your changing table is ready to go. Need to stop and nurse? Your favorite chair is easily accessible.

In general there isn’t the stress of getting everyone ready on time and out the door to arrive at an appointment. If I arrive and you aren’t quite ready yet, there’s no pressure. I have equipment to set up and rooms to scout out. When the session is finished, you won’t have to load everyone up and into the car again. You’re already home and can relax or move on with your day while I do the loading up of my equipment.

In my opinion, the main stressor of in-home photography sessions is making sure your house is photo-ready. Let me go ahead and simplify that task for you. Before our session, we will discuss the potential rooms we will use during your session. To produce portraits consistent with my typical work, I recommend using rooms with light colored walls and fabrics. Lighting is less of a concern because I bring in my own. Typically, I utilize 1-3 rooms during a session. We’ll consider your nursery, living room, master bedroom, or guest room all before your session. We will start your session with a game plan. All this to say, your entire house does not need to be spotless. I don’t expect it to be! If something needs to be moved, I’ll let you know and help you.

The Membership

I have been providing Chattanooga lifestyle family sessions for several years now. I love working with families (especially mothers) in this season of huge transitions and joy in the first year. It’s a season very worthy of documenting well. However, the fact of the matter is that the entire 1st year is full of shocking growth and changes for your little one. Think about the changes that happen from sleepy infant to walking toddler! If you’re like me, you may spend a lot of that 1st year sleep deprived with a foggy memory. It all kind of goes by in a blur. That’s partially I really treasure all of the images of my girls from their first year.

I’m honestly really excited when families decide to sign up for a year’s worth of pictures when their little one is born. I know they won’t regret having images from their child’s entire 1st year. (And I love getting to check in regularly and continue that relationship!) Signing up for a 1st year membership also has the benefit of reducing stress for mom. Being on the schedule for a full year means that there’s no checking in about availability every few months or accidentally forgetting to schedule a portrait session. You will be on my radar and I will take the lead to schedule. Working with the same photographer also ensures consistency in style and color of your images, which lends well to wall galleries or albums.

At this time, I offer a 1st Year Membership as part of my Chattanooga lifestyle photographer services. If you think you might want more portrait sessions throughout the year, don’t hesitate to ask about the membership! It includes reduced creative fees and other perks like priority scheduling. Don’t just stop at digital files

I get it, we live in a digital era. At last count, I have over 28,000 images in my phone camera roll. I know, I’m a photographer so that is a huge part of the high number. However, a recent study found that Americans take over 20 photos per day on average with their phone. That adds up!

What’s my point? We can easily have an overwhelming number of digital images. I do believe that we are losing something very important by not having tangible copies of our images. While some may argue that digital copies are safer, I have found that clients more frequently lose or forget where they have their digital images saved. If you’ve gone to a lot of effort and expense to hire a photographer and plan a session, why not take active steps to print them and preserve them?

In an effort to aid in this process, I have expanded my offerings and am now a full service Chattanooga lifestyle photographer As of 2023, all images purchased include a small fine art print. I also offer a variety of curated, archival photography products such as canvases, framed wall art, and heirloom albums. Let’s talk about how we can beautifully preserve and display your treasured memories! Learn more about the products I offer here.
